The Pyramid

This is a deep dive to around 30m to a large metal pyramid-shaped structure resting on the seafloor at 32m and whose apex rises to 15m.

·  Location: Access by dive boat only, via Manta Dive Club.

·  Parking for private vehicles: Manta Dive Club parking lot.

·  Entry point: The dive boat anchors directly above the dive site

About the dive: This is a deep dive to around 30m to a large metal pyramid-shaped structure resting on the seafloor at 32m and whose apex rises to 15m.
'Dubak's Pyramid' is an experimental site in which the generation of a new reef is being measured.
The site can be dived at any time of day, and visibility is fair.

·  Dive Plan: Descent from the boat directly to the apex of the pyramid at 15m and continue descending to maximum planned depth whilst circling the structure.
The pyramid is divided horizontally into four levels by metal plates upon which students from the Institute of Marine Biology continue to conduct experiments in coral growth.
North of the structure the seafloor rises to shallower depths and is covered in coral.

·  Marine inhabitants: Soft corals, sponges and many other marine creatures have made their home on the pyramid over the years.
A large Anglerfish resides on the pyramid's apex, and occasionally schools of pelagic fish pass by. On the seafloor, divers frequently meet rays of various species and sizes - usually big!

The site is located in an area heavily used by other water craft and therefore the surface must be avoided except for on ascent and descent from the dive boat.
The pyramid must be kept in sight at all times in order to return directly to the boat.
Divers may not touch the experiments.
The surrounding seafloor is muddy and care must be taken not to create disturbances.
